This will cut the letters from the rectangle below. Using the Edit path by nodes tool (F2), select each letter and your rectangle. Select your rectangle, go to the Object menu, and select Lower to Bottom (End). You are going to want your rectangle to be underneath the letters for the next step. Draw your rectangle around your text using the Rectangle tool (F4). We’ll use a simple rectangle for this tutorial. Your next step is to create the shape you want your text reverse cut from. Repeat this process for any additional bridges you need in your text. In other words, it will cut the rectangle out of your letter. This will cut the bottom object by the path of the top object. Now using the Edit path by nodes tool (F2), select one of the letters you want a bridge in and the rectangle you just made.

If you mean you want to add text to an existing text block, then double click the text object and get into text edit mode and then paste text in the text. To do this you can do the following: Open the Fill and Stroke toolbox by selecting the text object and then clicking Object > Fill and Stroke. Before you start, make sure you Enable Snapping (%). We’ll go over one method using the Boolean Operations in your Path menu. You can remedy this by creating links or bridges to those areas. However, if you want to reverse cut your type, you are going to lose the holes in your letters (O, P, B, A, etc.). If you were going to cut each letter individually, what you have here would be ready to go. Creating bridges for reversed laser cut text Now, because the circle is symmetrical, all you need to do is. Easy! At this point, you should also see vector points or nodes around the edges of your letters. The make your text, and choose Text>put on path with the circle and text selected. Now your text is a group of vector shapes. You’re going to select all your text, go to the Path Menu, and click Object to Path or press CTRL+Shift+C.

White areas of the texture had no effect on the logo. If you look closely, you’ll see that the black areas from the texture were subtracted from the Inkscape logo.

It’s important that both objects are selected, and it’s also important that the texture is layered on top of the object, otherwise it won’t work. The masking feature uses the top object as the mask. Make sure that the texture is placed on top of the object and not beneath it. To see this in action, select both objects (the texture and the object you’re applying it to,) bring the opacity back up to 100%, then go to Object -> Mask -> Set. This works for gradients and other shades as well - darker shades become more transparent the darker they get, and lighter shades have less of an effect the lighter they get. The white areas of the texture will have no effect on the object. Once we apply the masking feature, Inkscape will take the black areas of the texture and make them transparent on the object.
